Hi, I’m JeeYoung — a fundraising and capacity-building consultant based in Seattle. I’m so glad you’re here. I’ve spent my entire professional career in the nonprofit sector. I’ve done a little bit of everything — and a lot of fundraising.
My very first nonprofit job was at a capacity-building and training support organization, working the front desk: answering phones, drafting emails, and making copies. A year later, I was promoted to manage the organization’s training program. In that role, I partnered with experts to develop and lead workshops on everything, from board recruitment to nonviolent communication to building annual fundraising plans.
My time here gave me a bird’s-eye view of a sector that has shaped nearly every aspect of my professional life. I worked with and learned from incredible staff and volunteers at food banks, immigrant justice organizations, community gardens, and afterschool programs, and I fell in love with the hope and possibility at the heart of community-based work. It’s also when I discovered two key things: Nonprofits always need fundraisers — and I’m one of those people who actually enjoys talking about money!
Cue my launch into a career in fundraising.
Since then, I’ve worked in organizations of all sizes, leading efforts in annual giving, membership programs, special events, capital campaigns, and volunteer management. I’ve been a frontline fundraiser, facilitator, consultant, board member, event planner, volunteer, and occasional grant writer.
Throughout it all, a few central truths continue to ground me:
- Our sector deserves investment and resourcing
- Fundraising is a shared responsibility
- When done together, fundraising can actually be fun
When I’m not talking nonprofit-speak, I’m navigating life as a parent, partner, sister, and friend. These roles are connected to the relationships that keep me rooted in what matters most, and remind me every day of the joy and complexity of being human in a time of profound change.
